Preface: When a book stands far removed from your existing knowledge architecture, you cannot naturally digest it; read in that moment, it evaporates like blue smoke, failing to become accumulated wisdom. Only after personal growth can one consistently reap treasures from reading—discovering at a luminous instant that a passage in which one had previously noticed nothing now strikes with sudden enlightenment.
我们因此才要读有价值的书，它耐得住你的回顾、你的重新汲取与恍然大悟。你会明白当时的不能察觉，其实是因为它走在你前面太多，而你如今才姗姗来迟。
We must therefore read books of enduring worth: works that withstand your revisitation, renewed absorption, and sudden epiphanies. You will understand that your past blindness was simply because the book walked so far ahead of you, and you have only now arrived, tardy but awake.
