七月 人生前十年与5段证书 July: The First Decade of Life and the 5-Dan Certificate
返回 搏斗集 2023 Back to Struggle on the Cliff’s Edge 2023因为一些事翻出了十年前的5段证书，这张证书应该算是我人生前十年最骄傲的事了。说来好笑，我在本市几次定段均失败，每次到了上海就连胜，提前一轮定段，当时还因此觉得上海围棋水平很差哈哈哈哈哈。可是这已经是2013.9.21的事情了……
A recent circumstance prompted me to dig out my 5-Dan Go certificate from a decade ago—an achievement that probably represents the proudest accomplishment of the first ten years of my life. Amusingly enough, I had failed multiple promotion tournaments in my hometown, yet whenever I competed in Shanghai, I racked up winning streaks, clinching the promotion a round early; at the time, I even smugly concluded that Shanghai’s Go level was rather pathetic, hahahaha. Yet that was already on September 21, 2013…
在小学时期，我对围棋最重要的体会是让我变得比较沉稳和有耐心进行长期思考，所以说在小学初中基本没有什么学业的阻碍，感觉有一些性格的塑造能力在。这种长专注的能力在现在手机时代变得更加可贵了吧，短平快的生活方式需要一些长思考的东西。
Looking back on my elementary school years, the most profound insight Go gave me was teaching me to become calm and patient enough for sustained deep thinking. Consequently, I encountered virtually no academic obstacles through elementary and middle school; it possessed genuine character-molding potency. In today’s smartphone era, this capacity for protracted focus has become all the more precious; a short-and-shallow lifestyle desperately needs instruments of deep contemplation.
当然围棋也有眼见的缺点。需要大量练习和对局，这意味着久坐和盯棋盘或电脑。而且在社交技能中不如乐器，学业帮助不如奥数，体能素质不如游泳足球，我认为如果不是有天赋或者是喜欢，长期学习围棋性价比比较低。
Of course, Go has undeniable drawbacks. It demands immense practice and game play, which entails prolonged sitting and staring fixatedly at boards or computer monitors. Furthermore, as a social skill it trails musical instruments; for academic utility it lags behind Olympiad math; for physical conditioning it cannot rival swimming or soccer. In my view, unless blessed with innate talent or sheer devotion, long-term Go training offers relatively low return on investment.
另外，从一个在AI时代前学棋的人来说，我认为AI应该使围棋更加容易深入学习了。当学习到一个阶段后，棋会很容易进入一个瓶颈期，我3段和5段时都是这样，在涉及到局部手段和全局判断中，AI能显著地开拓人类的思路，我认为如果当时我遇到了AI，我的棋力会更强。AI也让围棋的研究更有趣了。
Moreover, speaking as someone who learned Go prior to the AI epoch, I believe AI should have made Go far more accessible to study deeply. Once learning reaches a certain tier, one easily hits a plateau—as happened to me at 3-Dan and 5-Dan. When it comes to local tactical maneuvers and whole-board positional judgment, AI remarkably expands human horizons. I think that if I had encountered AI back then, my playing strength would have been greater. AI has also made Go research far more fascinating.
十年过去了，即将二十岁的我，人生的下一个“5段证书”又要在哪里考得呢？
Ten years have passed. As I approach twenty, where in this vast world shall I earn my next “5-Dan certificate”?
